Soccer Falls To Usm In Kcac Quarterfinals
The Warrior men's soccer season concluded with a 4-2 loss to the second-seeded University of Saint Mary Spires on Saturday afternoon.
Sterling got off to a great start opening up a 2-0 lead in the first thirty-five minutes of play. The first goal came in the 9th minute on a corner kick by Marco Madrono. Madrono found Jacobo Sanfeliu on the back post for the header and the score. The second goal for the Warriors came in the 35th minute when Sanfeliu prevented a ball reversal that allowed Juan Sepulveda to control the ball and pass to Mateus Lara. Lara switched field to Jhonatan Rendon-Garcia who found Nico Galvez behind the defense who took one dribble and hoofed the ball from right to left and found the corner of the net. Sterling gave up a goal with less than 2 minutes left in the half and held a 2-1 halftime lead.
The second half was all Spires as they score the final 3 goals of the game. When time expired, Sterling was down 4-2 to the higher seeded Spires.
Sterling's season came to an end with a 5-9-5 record. This is the fourth straight year that the Warriors have made the KCAC tournament.
