A $6.38 million resurfacing of U.S. 54, K-61 and U.S. 281 in Pratt County is expected to begin on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 23.
The Kansas Department of Transportation project involves a mill and hot-mix-asphalt overlay on these highways, in this order:
U.S. 54: on the east side of Pratt, from the K-61 junction east about 4.5 miles to the beginning of the concrete pavement. Crews are expected to start the overall project on U.S. 54 and to work from the east end of the project toward Pratt.
K-61: beginning at the U.S. 54 junction, north for about 1.25 miles, to where the five-lane section transitions to two lanes.
U.S. 281: from the Barber/Pratt county line north to the south city limits of Pratt. And on U.S. 281 from the north city limits of Pratt to 482 feet north of North 60th Street. The work on U.S. 281 is expected to progress from the south to the north.
The total length of the work is almost 24 miles.
During the work, traffic will be controlled during daylight hours with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should be prepared to stop and should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
The work is expected to be completed around Nov. 18.
Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor.
